A group of investors led by US golfer Bryson DeChambeau have acquired Sportsbox AI, an artificial intelligence (AI) coaching startup.

Key details:

  • Multiple reports indicate deal is valued at eight figures
  • Steve Argeris, Nicholas Doloresco, and Joseph Erdos of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP advised DeChambeau on acquisition, alongside Fortified Partners

Context:

Founded in 2020 by engineer Samuel Menaker and former LPGA Tour player Jeehae Lee, Sportsbox AI’s computer vision technology captures and analyses athlete movement.

The company, which was included in SportsPro’s 20 sports tech ideas to invest in now in 2024, takes a 2D video feed and transforms the footage into a 3D avatar that can be seen from multiple angles, allowing players to make immediate adjustments.

DeChambeau has credited SportsBox AI’s technology for the swing refinements he made during his 2024 US Open victory. The 32-year-old then invested in the company later that year, joining the likes of Michelle Wie West and EP Golf Ventures as a backer of the startup.

To coincide with the announcement, it was also revealed that the Sportsbox AI Motion Intelligence (SAMI) AI Assistant will launch within the company’s app later this year. The new agentic AI-powered assistant will benefit from the technical support of Google Cloud, which DeChambeau partnered with in 2025.

Comment:

“Pushing the boundaries of data and technology has always been a huge part of how I approach the game, but this goes beyond performance,” said DeChambeau. “This is about making golf more accessible, especially premium coaching.

“With Sportsbox AI and Google Cloud, we’re building something that brings real coaching to anyone with a smartphone, not just elite players. That’s what gets me fired up.”

AI promises transformation, but most sports organisations struggle with implementation. This April, SportsPro London will reveal what’s actually delivering ROI today – from fan personalisation to ticketing revenue – as well as case studies from those making it work. Learn more here.
